EVE and ADAM

DISCOVERING THE BEAUTIFUL BALANCE

A few years into a rigorous wrestle regarding the place of women in the world and in God's plan, Mindy realized she'd gathered an awful lot of priceless material and valuable insights into one mostly-organized place and that it might be something others would appreciate access to, as well--and before long, a book manuscript took shape. That manuscript became Eve and Adam: Discovering the Beautiful Balance. What she learned through the research, writing, and publishing process, and in the years since, has changed her life in ways she never could have imagined! Mindy loves speaking and teaching about Eve and Adam, the temple, and the divinely-designed role that agency and uncertainty play in our eternal progression.

“Eve and Adam knew life’s purpose and felt empowered through the combination of assurance and hope to exercise their agency to choose to usher in mortality for all of God’s children, thereby opening the doorway to experience. Even at this point of their story, they understood that life in the garden was not the ultimate goal, but that exaltation and celestial glory were.”

Praise for EVE and ADAM

"It's a joyful thing to encounter a new idea, or a familiar idea with new light on the subject, on nearly every page. For me it's a book that deeply touches the heart just as it stimulates the mind. I plan to make it a gift to all our children. Our greatest hope and desire and prayer is that our children (and grandchildren) will cling fast to the faith, and to each other--and to their spouses. I believe Melinda's book will help them."

“This book is one of the finest examples of how devotional literature ought to be done among the Latter-day Saints. Melinda has produced a nuanced treatment of a controversial topic in which she manages to do a most difficult trick: inflect a devotional piece of writing (i.e. writing designed to build faith) with solid and sound scholarship that ranges beyond LDS sources. More impressive, perhaps, is that she accomplishes the ever-elusive goal of the brilliant scholar: presenting complex thinking in crystal-clear prose. In other words, one need not be an accomplished academic to understand and appreciate and, crucially, to grow spiritually from this book. Readers interested in the debates about gender tensions in the story of our first parents, priesthood, and the temple will find the book a rewarding read. I anticipate returning to this book frequently as I seek to deepen my understanding of all of these subjects. I offer my unreserved endorsement and recommendation of this fine piece of work and I sincerely hope it meets with a wide readership."

"I just wanted to thank you for the beautiful book you wrote. I have listened to it twice and recommended it to everyone I know. It dovetailed so nicely with several other books I read this year about women and the priesthood. I learned so much from the book and am appreciative of all the many years of research and dedication I'm sure it took to write that. I taught seminary last year and will be giving your book to all of the girls who graduated. I think it's so important that women understand their true identity and roles and you have laid it all out so clearly. I especially loved your insight about the word cleave. I have really been thinking about those dual meanings since reading the book.”
